ANOTHER YETI SEASON COMES TO AN END!

Cypress Mountain Post Race Report
The course was set for the final Yeti of the 2011 season. This event would help celebrate 10 years of snowshoeing, and no better venue than Cypress Mountain. The new course had really created some excitement as this area provides some of the best running trails around! The weather was blowing snow so it felt like old man winter was still smiling down on everyone. 11:00am start time saw runners take off to complete the 5.5km loop which offered everything from open groomed trial to rolling single track and a 200m untracked powder section. The course would take participants into the upper trial system which has not been used for a Yeti since 2006. It was great introducing this back into the course as conditions on these less traveled trials were challenging yet fun.
With this new course and the soft snow conditions it was going to be tough to go sub 1 hour for the Enduro cat which had to complete 2 laps. But with Shaun Stephens Whale on the line anything is possible, this would unfold to be the story of the day. He came through on his first lap in 27:40 gapping the pack by just less than 5 minutes. The stride and confidence on his face reflects how dominant he has been this season. It would be fair to say that Shaun is the fastest snowrunner in the country at this time. As he disappeared into the cloud and snow he seemed to re appear in no time laying down the fastest time of the day with a blistering hot second lap split time of 26:16. This would be the only sub 1 hour time in the Enduro category on the day. This does not take anything away from all the great performances by everyone in both the Sport and Enduro categories. It was a windy, snowy
soft surface day so conditions were tough, congratulations to all participants.
There was definitely a great energy in the air for our final event of the season and what a great season it has been. Mt. Washington really kicked things of in style with over 250 snowshoers. Whistler Olympic Park provided a fantastic venue with the best weather day of the year! The Cypress course with the amazing rolling single track is always a high note to finish on. Thank you to all three venues for assisting us with hosting such a successful series.
Thank you to all the sponsors and partners that support The Yeti. Thank you to our staff and The Yeti run team that do such a great job guiding at our Thursday Night Drop In session. The support that all our volunteers provide at all our venues is very much appreciated so from the entire Yeti team Thank you. Thank you to all those that participated in The Yeti XC this season, we hope you enjoyed your day.
